The main event of UFC Fight Night: Emmett vs. Vallejos ended quickly as rising featherweight Kevin Vallejos scored a dominant first-round TKO over veteran Josh Emmett.

On March 14, 2026, the UFC returned to the UFC Apex (Meta APEX) in Las Vegas, Nevada, for UFC Fight Night with the featherweight division taking center stage in the evening’s main event. The card featured a compelling clash between seasoned veteran Josh Emmett and rising Argentine prospect Kevin Vallejos, it was a matchup that carried major implications for both fighters.

Josh Emmett has long been recognised as one of the most dangerous punchers in the UFC’s featherweight division. Known for his explosive right hand and relentless pressure, the American fighter built his reputation through a series of knockout victories that once placed him firmly among the division’s top contenders.

However, the veteran has faced a challenging stretch in recent outings, struggling to find consistent results against the new generation of featherweights. Over his last three appearances in the Octagon, Emmett has recorded one win and two losses.

One of the toughest setbacks came in October 2025, when Emmett faced Youssef Zalal. The bout ended quickly after Zalal secured a first-round armbar submission, forcing Emmett to tap early in the contest. Earlier in April 2025, Emmett also suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Lerone Murphy. In that fight, Murphy controlled the pace across three rounds, using his speed and striking accuracy to outwork the veteran and secured the judges’ scorecards. Overall, Emmett has lost four of his last five fights. Nevertheless, his experience, toughness, and fight-ending power continue to make him a dangerous opponent for any fighter stepping into the Octagon with him.

On the other side of the main event stood Kevin Vallejos, a 24-year-old rising prospect from Argentina who has quickly begun to attract attention as one of the UFC’s most promising young fighters. Known for his aggressive striking style and finishing ability, Vallejos has steadily built momentum since arriving in the promotion. The young featherweight has put together an impressive professional record and has remained undefeated since joining the UFC, winning three consecutive fights inside the Octagon. His performances have showcased both his striking power and his ability to control fights against experienced opponents.

One of the most significant victories of his career came when he knocked out striking specialist Giga Chikadze Interestingly, the only defeat on Vallejos’ professional record came earlier in his career during an appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series, where he lost a decision to Jean Silva. However, that setback appears to have served as a turning point. Since then, Vallejos has rebounded strongly, putting together an impressive winning streak and continuing to climb the ranks in the competitive 145-pound division.

Vallejos entered the fight eager to prove that he belongs among the top fighters in the featherweight division. From the opening bell, Vallejos looked sharp and composed. He immediately began applying pressure, circling forward and forcing Emmett to fight off the back foot Emmett tried to close the distance and throw his powerful right hand. Vallejos, however, looked calm and sharp. The young Argentine kept moving and used quick combinations to keep Emmett guessing. About halfway into the round, Vallejos landed a clean counter right hand that dropped Emmett to the canvas. The veteran managed to get back to his feet, but Vallejos immediately followed with pressure and more punches.
Seconds later, Vallejos connected again with another strong combination that dropped Emmett for the second time. Seeing Emmett unable to defend himself properly, referee Herb Dean had no choice but to step in to stop the contest at 3:33 of the first round, awarding Vallejos a TKO victory.

“I have the utmost respect for Josh Emmett,” Vallejos said after moving to 4-0 in the UFC. “I’m not going to lie, I came in here with a little bit of fear. We knew that [him throwing bombs] was part of the plan, we know we could counter. Listen, he’s an old dog, same tricks. He came with the same things, we knew it and we solved it.”
Argentina, keep dreaming,” Vallejos shouted to his home country fans. “Because you’re going to have a world champion.”

With the victory, Vallejos extended his undefeated run in the UFC and further cemented his reputation as one of the featherweight division’s most dangerous young contenders.
For Emmett, the loss marked another difficult moment late in his career, raising questions about his future in the sport after a tough stretch of results.
