UFC star Colby Covington believes Tony Ferguson should take his recent victory and quit while he’s still ahead.
Former UFC standout Ferguson snapped his eight-fight losing streak when he secured a much-needed win at Misfits Boxing 22 against Salt Papi. The victory marked his first since being released from UFC after a string of losses to top names like Justin Gaethje, Charles Oliveira, Michael Chandler, Nate Diaz, and Paddy Pimblett.
While Ferguson’s performance brought relief to fans, Covington advised him to step away from combat sports for good and take his victory as a close to his fighting career
“Happy for him,” Covington said on his YouTube channel. “Super congratulations to Tony for actually winning a fight. Even though it was against some influencer that has no combat sports experience, a win’s a win.

“My advice to Tony is quit while you’re ahead and ride off into the sunset. Go enjoy time with your family, brother. If you get back in there again, you’re going to get hurt, and no one wants to see you get hurt, Tony, because we like you. No more hits to the head, and no more reason to give Duck-Lip [Justin] Gaethje a run for his money for King of CTE.”
Covington and Ferguson have had a rocky relationship, highlighted by their heated exchange at the UFC 296 pre-fight press conference. Despite the verbal sparring, Covington hinted that he still views Ferguson with respect.
“I think we’re friends, I don’t know, it went so many different ways,” Covington said. “We were friends, we were enemies, we were friends, and then we were enemies again. But Team USA, brother.”
Ferguson’s long-awaited win was a career-saving moment, but Covington insists the time has come for him to walk away before risking further damage.
