Ananias Mulumba was involved in one of the most entertaining fights on the opening week of Dana White’s Contender Series Season 10, but despite a strong start, he ultimately came up short against Tom Pagliarulo in a chaotic featherweight clash.
The second bout of the evening delivered non-stop action from the opening bell, with both fighters hurting each other almost immediately. A clean punch from Pagliarulo wobbled Ananias Mulumba, but the Congolese featherweight fired back seconds later with a powerful shot that buckled his opponent’s knees.
Mulumba looked sharp and dangerous on the feet throughout the opening round. His speed, accuracy, and striking power repeatedly caused problems for Pagliarulo, who was forced to rely on his wrestling to slow the fight down. Although Pagliarulo secured a couple of takedowns, he struggled to capitalize on them as Mulumba consistently found ways back to his feet.
The second round remained closely contested, with both men landing significant strikes and having moments of success. Ananias Mulumba continued to threaten with his hands, but his pace began to slow as the fight progressed. Even so, he managed to avoid serious danger and kept the contest competitive heading into the final frame.
The momentum shifted dramatically in Round 3.Pagliarulo exploded into a takedown early in the round and immediately established top control. From half guard, he opened a cut on Mulumba with sharp elbows and maintained relentless pressure on the ground.
Despite absorbing heavy punishment, Ananias Mulumba continued to battle and search for opportunities to stand up. However, Pagliarulo’s control proved too much to overcome. The American featherweight racked up nearly four minutes of control time, repeatedly landing strikes while preventing Mulumba from escaping.
As the final minute approached, Pagliarulo took Mulumba’s back and unleashed a barrage of punches. With no sign of the assault slowing down, referee Mike Beltran stepped in and waved off the contest.
The stoppage capped off a gritty performance from both fighters, but it was Pagliarulo who walked away with the victory after weathering the early storm and taking over in the later rounds.
