Cameroonian fighter Francis Ngannou has mixed feelings about the result of TysonFury vs Oleksandr Usyk rematch and is willing to take on Fury if the opportunity arises.
The two heavyweight boxers had battled it out nine months ago, and Usyk emerged victorious with the heavyweight championship title alongside a plethora of other belts. Fortunately for MMA fans, the boxers had a rematch clause in their contract which meant Fury had another shot at taking down Usyk, but he failed once again. The boxing match was attended by many, including MMA fighter Francis Ngannou, who had taken a shot at boxing and fought Fury in the past. The match didn’t go well for Ngannou as he suffered a split decision loss, but it seems the boxer wants another shot.
In a recent interview, Ngannou spoke about the bout and said Fury was close to defeating Usyk. He says the fighter was a tight one , and the scorecards may have been inaccurate. The judges scored 116-112 for Usyk, but the AI scoreboard had 118-112 for Usyk.
“I think the fight was pretty close, I think I would’ve scored the fight closer than that.” Francis Ngannou stated in the interview with Pro Boxing Fans. “Maybe Usyk still wins. At the end of the fight, I wasn’t sure if anybody was the winner, because everybody could’ve been the winner. From my scorecard, it was closer than that.”
“No, no – AI might be intelligent, but AI doesn’t understand the sport properly,” Ngannou said. “It’s a man sport. It’s not a machine sport. I think AI, regardless of everything, is still a machine that operates automatically and scores based on some (things it can’t see). I don’t think AI has all the specific or the data to score a boxing match.”
Although Ngannou is open to facing Fury, fans would much rather see him battle Nigerian fighter Anthony Joshua. The last time he encountered Joshua, Ngannou suffered a knockout. There had been talks about a rematch but the PFL heavyweight champion has his sight set on Fury as he seeks revenge.
“From beating Fury twice, winning Joshua twice, it’s hard to argue [against Usyk being the best heavyweight on the planet]… But what I want to see now is Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou [again]. That’s all that matters for me.”
