UFC women’s strawweight contender Tatiana Suarez issued her first statement after suffering her first career defeat to Zhang Weili.
Suarez has had a promising career run for the past couple of years. The fighter fought twice in 2019 but suffered multiple injuries that forced her into a four-year break from the cage. Suarez finally made a grand appearance in 2023 by submitting opponent Montana De La Rosa. Soon after, she went on to another victory after beating Andrade at UFC Nashville. She was set to face Virna Jandiroba at UFC 310 but had to withdraw due to an injury. Her successive victories earned her the title shot against Zhang Weili, but her winning streak came to an end when she encountered the champ in the octagon.

In a recent Instagram post, Suarez addressed her first professional defeat and setback from her title ambitions.
“Champions don’t show up to get everything they want; they show up to give everything they have.’ And that’s what I’ll do every single time,” Suarez wrote. “No matter what! I love it all. Win, lose or draw, I’m right where I want to be. Doing what I love to do every single day of my life. I have the best people around me that love me for me. Living the dream! It’s all about the right mindset and life has taught me time and time again. I’ve experienced it all thrill, agony, happiness, heartbreak. That’s what life is all about. I’m blessed to have this life. And I’ll share these experiences with my children and the future generations to come. 🙏🏻❤️
“Thank you to my friends, family, teammates, coaches, and fiancé for being there every single time no matter what. Love you guys! On to the next!”
Suarez revealed she suffered a nasty injury on her leg within two rounds of her bout with Weili, but she continued on. Weili on the other hand commended her opponent on her performance and tagged the fight as one of the toughest in her career. The champion is currently basking in her victory for now which she prepares for any upcoming contender.
