Conor McGregor breaks silence after UFC 329 injury ends comeback. Conor McGregor has broke his silence after his long-awaited UFC return ended in heartbreaking fashion at UFC 329.
The former two-division UFC champion returned to the Octagon after nearly five years away from competition, but his comeback lasted only 69 seconds after he suffered a serious-looking right knee injury while attempting a jumping kick early in the opening round. Holloway was awarded the victory after the referee stopped the contest.
Following the disappointing ending, McGregor addressed fans on social media and denied suggestions that he entered the fight carrying an injury. The Irish superstar explained that he had been fully healthy during his training camp and that the injury happened unexpectedly during the fight.
“My head gasket is gone,” McGregor wrote. “Destroyed. I had no injury/injuries going into the fight. I was throwing kicks, planted and jumping, all throughout camp as well as backstage before the fight. “This came out of nowhere. I am beyond dark here. I can only describe it as hell.” McGregor’s statement came after UFC President Dana White revealed that doctors suspected the injury could be a torn ACL, although further medical evaluation would be needed to confirm the full extent of the damage.

The injury represented another difficult chapter in McGregor’s recent career. His previous fight in 2021 against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 also ended due to a serious leg injury, when McGregor suffered a broken leg in the opening round.
After years of rehabilitation and preparation, McGregor had entered UFC 329 believing he was ready to prove he could still compete at the highest level. Instead, his return ended almost immediately, leaving questions about his future in the sport.
For McGregor, the focus now turns toward recovery and determining the severity of the injury. Whether he returns to the Octagon again remains uncertain, but his emotional message showed just how devastating the setback has been for one of MMA’s biggest stars. After years of waiting for his comeback, McGregor’s return ended in the cruelest way possible whch was not through defeat inside a competitive fight, but through an injury that stopped the story before it truly began.
