Anthony Smith finally speaks following his arrest on multiple felony charges earlier this summer, ending weeks of public silence with a message shared on social media.
The former UFC title challenger and current analyst posted a family photo on Instagram over the weekend, marking his first public comments since his July arrest in Nebraska.
Smith, who recently entered a not-guilty plea to the charges against him, expressed relief at being reunited with his family after initially being restricted from contacting his wife due to her involvement in the incident that led to his arrest.
“Happy to be home with my household full of ‘whys,’” Smith wrote on Instagram.“I’ll be able to tell my story someday soon. Until then… you guys just keep making it up as you go.Character is revealed in chaos.”
The post quickly drew attention across the MMA community, as fans and fellow fighters continue to follow developments in the high-profile case.

According to authorities, Smith faces charges that include terroristic threats, first-degree false imprisonment, and domestic violence-related offenses.
Court records show Smith recently pleaded not guilty to all charges. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 21.
If convicted on the most serious charges, Smith could face significant prison time under Nebraska law.
Following Smith’s arrest, the Sarpy County Attorney’s Office released a statement outlining the allegations.
“During today’s bond hearing, a prosecutor from the Sarpy County Attorney’s Office offered the following information: It is alleged that on July 26, 2026, the defendant was involved in an altercation with his wife at a bar in Gretna, Neb., during which he reportedly threatened to kill her if she did not get into his vehicle and go home with him,” the statement read.“He is further accused of grabbing and pushing her inside the vehicle.”
“At one point, during the drive, she was able to exit the vehicle. The defendant allegedly continued making threats, demanding that she get back inside the vehicle. After arriving home, she again exited the vehicle. Investigators allege that the defendant attempted multiple times to use the vehicle to strike her. The defendant’s wife was able to get out of the way and avoid any physical harm.”

In a social media statement, she defended Smith and suggested the situation stemmed from a mental health crisis rather than malicious intent.
“I love Anthony with every ounce of my being,” Newman wrote.“He is a good man, a great dad, and an incredible husband who loves us endlessly. Anyone that knows him can attest to that.”
“They made a mental health struggle into something it wasn’t. I am safe and always was safe. He would never hurt me. Ever. I called for help to protect him from himself.”

The former UFC light heavyweight title challenger retired from the promotion following his loss to Zhang Mingyang. Since then, he has worked as an analyst and commentator while also briefly returning to competition.
Earlier this year, Smith competed in the Gamebred FC bare-knuckle MMA heavyweight tournament, submitting former UFC heavyweight Chase Sherman in his debut appearance.
Court documents also indicate that Smith recently received permission to travel internationally for a professional sporting event between September 27 and October 3.
