Former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor is currently on trial after hairdresser Nikita Ni Laimhin accused him of rape in December 2018.
The Irishman appeared at the Irish High Court in Dublin, where Judge Alexander Owen briefed the case. The victim alleged that McGregor and James Lawrence picked her up after a Christmas party and offered her a ride. According to John Gordon, Laimhin’s lawyer, the fighter and the victim had been acquainted as they had been texting on social media prior to meeting up.
The plaintiff alleged that McGregor had a bag of cocaine, which he shared with miss Ni Laimhin and her friends. The victim claims the group, which included McGregor’s security team, moved to the penthouse at the Beacon Hotel. On arrival, McGregor beckoned her to the room, but she said she refused his sexual advances. She says the fighter physically overpowered her and forced himself on her. Laimhin recalled McGregor saying, “That’s how I felt in the octagon. I had to tap myself out three times. That’s how I felt” as he forcibly had sex with her.
She claims that after he was done, James Lawrence also took turns in this sexual act while she was still intoxicated with the hard substance.
After the act, the victim said she went to the hospital to run tests. Gynecologist Dr Daniel Kane confirms that the victim was distraught when she came in and she had injuries consistent with violence. He said she had bruises all over her body and was shaking and crying when she walked into the hospital.
According to Kane, Laimhin said, “He had me by the neck. He stopped me from breathing a few times. I thought he was going to kill me.” He also detected a tampon lodged deep inside her cervix while using a sexual assault examination kit.
Laimhin claims that she hasn’t recovered since the incident and hasn’t been able to work since May 2019. She is seeking reparations for lost wages of $1.79-2.13 million.
Although the victim’s team had a lot to say, McGregor and his representatives have vehemently denied these allegations. They claim the accused coaxed up this story and distorted the events just to extort the accuser.
For now, the civil trial is still ongoing, and the hearing is set to reconvene on Wednesday.
