Poirier

UFC star Dustin Poirier hung up his gloves earlier this year after his final bout with Max Holloway at UFC 318. However, it now seems the fighter may have had a change of heart and is considering a return.

Poirier first hit the limelight when he headlined a pay-per-view fight with former UFC champion Conor McGregor and won. Following that, he went on to defeat Benoit Saint-Denis and others. But at the peak of his career, while ranked as a top-10 lightweight, Poirier decided to walk away from the Octagon, citing concerns for his long-term health. Although he initially seemed firm in his retirement, it now appears he may be reconsidering.

In a post on X, Dustin Poirier revealed that the only fight that could lure him back would be a boxing match with Nate Diaz.

“Zuffa Boxing, 12 rounds, me and Nathaniel, I’d do it,” Poirier said. “Only one more fight I’d take.”

Poirier and Diaz were scheduled to meet at UFC 230, but Poirier withdrew due to a hip injury. The fight was never rescheduled, with both fighters later accusing each other of avoiding the clash.

“We’re not going anywhere, but someone asked me. I’m retired. I’m done. But Nate is the one that got away,” Poirier posted on X.

Diaz left the UFC in 2022 after defeating Tony Ferguson at UFC 279. Since then, he has competed twice in boxing, losing to Jake Paul in 2023 but defeating Jorge Masvidal in their 2024 rematch.
