Dana White believes the UFC will continue creating stars, but he’s convinced there will never be another Conor McGregor.
Despite McGregor’s comeback ending in disappointment at UFC 329, his status as the biggest star in MMA history remains untouched. From the moment he arrived in the UFC in 2013, McGregor carried unprecedented momentum, turning himself into a global superstar through a combination of elite performances, charisma, and impeccable timing.
His legendary 13-second knockout of Jose Aldo, blockbuster rivalry with Nate Diaz, lightweight title win over Eddie Alvarez, and crossover boxing match with Floyd Mayweather elevated him beyond the sport. Add in his record-breaking grudge match with Khabib Nurmagomedov, and it’s easy to see why McGregor remains the UFC’s biggest attraction.
Speaking on The Pivot Podcast, Dana White explained why he believes McGregor’s rise can never be replicated.
“[He was] revolutionary in the sports world, not just in the UFC,” White said.
“I look at a guy like him like a unicorn. People always ask me, ‘Who’s the next Conor McGregor?’ There’s never going to be another Conor McGregor.
“In the time, in the place, and the way he came into the sport, there will be a different superstar, but there will never be another Conor.”
According to Dana White, McGregor’s success wasn’t just about winning fights. It was about capturing a moment in time and connecting with fans in a way few athletes ever have.
Inside the Octagon, McGregor became the first fighter in UFC history to hold two titles simultaneously. Outside of it, he shattered pay-per-view records, generated massive live gates, and became one of the most recognizable athletes on the planet.
Even after a five-year absence from competition, McGregor’s star power remained undeniable.His return against Max Holloway at UFC 329 drew massive viewership numbers and generated enormous interest worldwide. Unfortunately, the comeback lasted just 69 seconds after McGregor suffered a serious knee injury early in the fight.
The former two-division champion later revealed that he tore both his ACL and meniscus. Despite the setback, McGregor remains optimistic about his recovery and has targeted a return in the summer of 2027.
For Dana White, McGregor’s latest injury doesn’t change the impact he’s already had on the sport. While fans continue to debate whether McGregor can recapture his championship form, White believes his legacy is already secure. The UFC CEO has consistently referred to McGregor as a once-in-a-generation talent whose influence extended far beyond mixed martial arts.
McGregor currently has one fight remaining on his UFC contract, adding another layer of intrigue to his eventual return. If he fulfills that deal, he could become one of the most sought-after free agents in combat sports history.
For now, however, the focus remains on recovery.
McGregor faces surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation process before he can think about stepping back into the cage. But even as questions swirl about his fighting future, Dana White remains certain of one thing: the sport may produce new stars, but it will never produce another Conor McGregor.
“There will be a different superstar,” White said. “But there will never be another Conor.”
