Conor McGregor is staying positive after undergoing surgery following his disastrous return to the Octagon at UFC 329.
The former two-division UFC champion recently went under the knife after suffering serious knee injuries in his highly anticipated comeback fight against Max Holloway. Despite another major setback in his career, Conor McGregor appears confident about his recovery and future.
McGregor had not competed since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier in 2021. After a five-year absence from the Octagon, many fans hoped to see the Irish superstar make a triumphant return. Instead, UFC 329 ended in heartbreak when he suffered ACL and meniscus injuries just moments into his rematch with Holloway.
The injury brought back memories of McGregor’s first meeting with Holloway in 2013, when he tore his ACL during the fight. This time, however, it was his right knee that failed him, leaving him unable to continue.
Following the procedure, Conor McGregor shared a brief but confident update with fans on his Instagram Stories.
“Surgery went excellent,” McGregor wrote. “I am confident.”
The latest operation marks the fifth major surgery of McGregor’s combat sports career, adding another chapter to his long road back from injury.
While Conor McGregor has already declared his intention to return for one final fight in 2027, not everyone believes another comeback is the right move. Former UFC welterweight title challenger Darren Till recently urged McGregor to pay attention to what his body is telling him after suffering multiple serious injuries over the years.
Others remain optimistic about the former champion’s chances of returning. Ex-UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman believes McGregor will follow through on his comeback plans because he has no interest in ending his legendary career on an injury stoppage.
McGregor himself appears fully committed to one final run. After a fan asked him on X who he would like to face once he recovers, the Irishman made it clear that he wants to finish his trilogy with Max Holloway.
