EARLY LIFE
Bunmi Ojewole was born in Ibadan, Nigeria, but relocated to Durban with her family when she was 7. She began fighting at a young age and chose jiu-jitsu as a focus area. The athlete is a purple belt holder in jiu-jitsu and was a gold medalist at the 2014 North American Grappling Tournament.
Not only is she a fighter, but she is also a medical doctor and specializes in orthopedic surgery. She also loves art and enjoys drawing, poetry, and guitar playing. Ojewole has been in seven professional fights and five amateur bouts.
MMA CAREER
The fighter has competed in multiple tournaments, including MFC Fight Zone, Bloemfontein Fight Night, Shuriken Dojo Amateurs, Last Fighter Standing, and EFC Worldwide. Her first amateur bout saw her face off against Fatima Asmal in the featherweight division. Ojewole won this fight after locking Asmal in a triangle choke, leading to her submission in the second round. Next, she went against Martica Marais but lost the match via TKO in round three.
Later, she faced Ronel Potgieter and scored a nice takedown before defeating her opponent in a rear naked choke in round three. Her last Amateur battle was against Ines Brits, and she defeated her opponent in the final round.
She soon moved up to the professional level and battled former rival Asmal, but she won this match. She faced Nokwanda Mazibuko and conquered her opponent after delivering a barrage of blows and strikes that led to Mazibuko’s surrender in the fifth round. Next, she faced off against Razel Mohammed. Ojewole won the fight after landing vicious strikes and punches, leading to a TKO in the opening round.
After this win, “The Bone Bender” faced Cameroonian fighter Clotilde Essiane but lost the match via unanimous decision in round five. Next, she faced off against Morrocco fighter Rizlen Zouak. The match started with Zouak on the offense, driving Ojewole to a corner. Ojewole went for a takedown, but Zouak scrambled her way through and locked Ojewole in a tight body hold.
The two opponents got back on their feet, but Zouak went for a beautiful leg flip and threw Ojewole to the ground. Zouak tried to lock her in an arm bar, but Ojewole slipped through and got back on her feet. Ojewole threw a right hand while Zouak threw a calf kick. Zouak soon grappled Ojewole to the canvas, but Ojewole got on top.
Back on their feet, the opponents kept up their defense before Zouak followed with a knee to the midsection. She chased her with strikes and blows that saw her topple to the ground. Ojewole continued with hammer fists and leg kicks before round one ended.
In round two, Zouak chased Ojewole with blows, and she wobbled to the ground. She stayed down while trying to compose herself, but Zouak stayed on her and landed leg kicks to the thighs. After getting back on her feet, Ojewole tries to keep a distance, but Zouak follows through with kicks, blows, and a knee to the body. Zouak grappled her to the ground and battering her with hammer fists. This led to Zouak’s win in the via TKO in round two.
Next, at EFC Worldwide 64, bantamweight division, Ojewole faced Angolian Katharyna Araujo. The two strikers kicked off the round, throwing fatal blows, and locked each other into a corner where they both kneed their bodies. The referee soon separated them, but Ojewole went after Araujo with a right-left jab combo before Araujo performed a takedown and landed some heavy ground pounding. After a round of wrestling, Ojewole finally had her in a triangle choke, leading to her submission in round two.
Her last recorded fight was against Muay Thai specialist Jacqauline Trosee. The rivals came together with explosive blows, and Ojewole went for a takedown and pummeled Trosee with blows. After a takedown and vicious blows, she finally put Trosee in a rear naked choke that led to a Tapout, earning Ojewole a victory.
