EARLY LIFE
Hokonya began his journey into the mma world in his Hometown and was frequently associated with St Mary’s and Chitungwiza, areas just outside Harare. He discovered boxing as a youth and later joined the local stable Box Africa, where he trained under Jeremiah Chiyangwa.
He made his professional boxing debut in 2019, defeating Alfred Kashiri at Magamba Hall, Harare by majority decision before transitioning to MMA when he migrated to Johannesburg, South Africa before COVID‑19. The fighter soon signed with Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) and trains at Ultimate MMA Fitness (UMF) under coach Themba Gorimbo and assistant Demarte Pena. He is currently ranked among the top featherweights in the Middle East & Africa region .
MMA CAREER
His pro MMA debut was in 2022 when he defeated Tshepo Majuba by unanimous decision at EFC 99. He went on to score a TKO over Billy Oosthuizen that earned a Performance Bonus. Next up was a unanimous decision win over Ayanda Zwane at EFC 114. Additional unanimous decision wins included bouts at EFC 103–Ayanda Zane—and EFC 107–Divine Bosomi .
