MMA promotion PFL has officially announced that its African edition will launch in July.
PFL founder Donn Davis took to X this week to confirm that the launch is set for July.
“PFL Africa Launches This July!!!” Davis wrote. “32 fighters from 14 nations compete in 4 single-elimination events to become PFL 2025 Africa Champion … 3rd regional league from @PFLMMA. May 6 major press announcement with fighter roster and event location details! #PFLMMA #PFLAfrica”
The tournament will feature 32 fighters from 14 nations, competing across four single-elimination events. Since solidifying its league format in 2018, PFL has expanded into different regions across the globe. With successful launches in Europe and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), the promotion has had its sights set on Africa for years.
In 2023, PFL took a major step toward that vision by signing Cameroonian fighter and former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. “The Predator” joined as both chairman and equity owner of PFL Africa, signaling the league’s long-term commitment to the continent.
The move has been well-received by MMA fans across Africa and marks another step in establishing the PFL’s global footprint.
“Africa is home to some of the greatest fighters in the world, including our league Chairman Francis Ngannou, and some of the greatest fans in the sport,” said PFL CEO Pete Murray. “PFL Africa aims to serve these fans with premium content while strengthening the PFL global footprint in what has, for too long, been an underserved market. Alongside our great investment and broadcast partners, we cannot wait to kick off PFL Africa league action in 2025.”
