Scott Coker is officially back in MMA, and the veteran promoter is preparing to launch a brand-new promotion in 2027.
Coker, the former Strikeforce and Bellator MMA boss, announced Tuesday that he will launch Ki MMA, pronounced “Key MMA,” early next year. He will also reunite with veteran matchmaker Rich Chou, who previously worked alongside him at Strikeforce and Bellator.
The new promotion already has an ambitious plan in place, with Coker announcing a 32-fighter Grand Prix featuring athletes from around the world.
The tournament will focus on a single weight class, with the inaugural edition set to feature featherweights competing at 145 pounds. Events will also take place across four different continents as Ki MMA looks to establish itself as a global MMA promotion.
One of the biggest differences between Ki MMA and other major promotions will be the fighting surface. Coker plans to stage the bouts in a ring rather than the traditional MMA cage.
The format marks another new chapter for Coker, who has spent decades building major MMA promotions and working with some of the sport’s biggest fighters.
More details about the tournament, roster and event schedule are expected to emerge during the press conference officially announcing Ki MMA.
