UWMMA overturns Jane vs Sanaa result, declares fight a no contest after review. The United World MMA (UWMMA) has made a major ruling for the AKO 10 bout that happened on Saturday, August 23 2025. The women’s bout between Nigeria’s Jane Osigwe and Morocco’s Sanaa Mandar, which took place in Abuja, has officially been declared a No Contest after a formal review.

The fight was one of the most talked-about matches of the night. After three hard-fought rounds, the judges awarded a unanimous decision victory to Jane Osigwe, with scores of 48-47, 49-46, and 50-45. However, Team Sanaa quickly filed an official protest with UWMMA, claiming that the judges’ decision was unfair and did not reflect what happened in the cage. Adding to the controversy, AKO President Kamaru Usman shared in a post-fight video that he personally thought Sanaa Mandar had done enough to win the fight. His opinion fueled further debate among fans and experts about the outcome.

UWMMA took the protest seriously and launched a full investigation into the fight and the judging process. To ensure transparency, the bout was reviewed by four international referees and judges. All four independent judges scored the fight in favor of Sanaa Mandar, which immediately raised concerns about the original result.

The review also revealed serious issues with the judges’ scorecards. According to the official statement from UWMMA, two of the original judges submitted round assessments that did not match the actual action inside the cage. Even more shocking, one judge failed to write down his round by round score on his mandatory memory sheet, which is against UWMMA’s judging standards. Due to these irregularities, UWMMA concluded that the original decision could not stand. In the interest of fairness and integrity, the organisation officially overturned the result and declared the fight a no contest

The investigation did not stop with the fight result. UWMMA announced that two of the judges involved have been suspended for six months and will be required to undergo additional training before being allowed to officiate again. This move is aimed at maintaining high standards and restoring trust in the judging process.

A No Contest means that neither fighter gets a win or loss on their record. However, the controversy has created even more anticipation for a rematch. UWMMA has recommended that AKO schedules a second fight between Jane Osigwe and Sanaa Mandar after both fighters have had time to prepare.

Another controversial outcome emerged from AKO 9, held in Lagos. Fabian Texas originally won the bout against Mahmud Ibrahim by KO/TKO (elbows) in the second round. But following a protest and detailed review, UWMMA overturned this win as well. The original KO/TKO victory at 4:24 of Round 2 was reviewed. UWMMA determined the bout involved illegal fence-grabbing, compromising the outcome. The fight was officially changed to a “No Contest”, negating the win from both fighters’ records.

These rulings underline UWMMA’s commitment to fairness and fighter safety. As African Knockout continues to grow, decisions like these ensure that the sport’s integrity stays intact and that every win is truly earned inside the cage.
