Fans feared the worst after a frightening ending to the UFC Vegas 121 main event, but there has been a positive update on Raoni Barcelos’ condition.
Raoni Barcelos medically stable is the latest news following a scary moment during his fight against Raul Rosas Jr. at the UFC Apex on Saturday night.
Barcelos appeared to be on his way to a decision victory after building a lead on all three judges’ scorecards. However, the fight took a shocking turn in the fifth round when he suddenly went unconscious during a clinch exchange with Rosas Jr.
The bout was immediately stopped, and medical personnel rushed into the Octagon before stretchering Barcelos out of the venue.
Hours later, the UFC released an official statement confirming that the veteran bantamweight is in stable condition.
“Following his fight tonight, Raoni Barcelos was immediately transported to a Level 1 trauma center for evaluation,” the UFC said. “The hospital medical team conducted a CT scan and comprehensive assessment, and he is currently being monitored. Barcelos is stable, alert and responsive, with full movement. He will remain under medical supervision. We will provide updates on his condition as they become available.”
The update provided relief for fans, fighters, and coaches who were concerned after witnessing one of the most unsettling scenes in recent MMA memory.
Barcelos’ head coach, Davi Ramos, also addressed the situation on social media and reassured supporters that the Brazilian fighter is recovering well.
“Raoni is doing well,” Ramos said. “He has regained full consciousness. He can move his legs, his arms, and his hands. He is alert, he is talking. Everything is fine with him. He is still undergoing a few more tests, and very soon he will be here to speak with you.”
Ramos later thanked fans for their support and prayers while Barcelos continues to undergo routine medical examinations.
“I just wanted to let you know so you can all stay calm,” Ramos said. “Keep praying for him. He’s undergoing all the tests that are standard in a situation like this. He’ll have to rest because of what happened, but God willing, everything will be fine. He’ll be here with us soon and he’ll be talking to you guys.”
Before the incident, Barcelos had delivered one of the strongest performances of his UFC career. He entered the final round ahead on all three scorecards, with one judge even awarding him a 10-8 round in the fourth.
The result ended what could have been his sixth consecutive UFC victory, but the outcome quickly became secondary as attention shifted to his health.
“We had a great fight,” Ramos said.“We practice a sport that we can’t predict, unfortunately, but we know for sure that we were doing our best. Raoni is a warrior, a phenomenal fighter, and he showed you that with all the technique, skill and heart he has.”
