EARLY LIFE
Mpumelelo Mngoma became interested in MMA after watching a fight between Conor Mcgregor and Floyd Mayweather. He began training shortly afterward and soon earned the title of second runner-up at IMMAF 2020 and first place at IMMAF 2021. The athlete is ranked #33 in South Africa’s pro flyweight and #46 in South Africa’s pro Bantamweight. He has been in one amateur and seven professional fights.
MMA CAREER
Mngoma competed at the MMASA: Amateur World Championship, where he battled against Sandile Luthi. He defeated his opponent after locking him in a kimura move. He made his professional debut at EFC 96, where he faced Teboho Ntene and won after a unanimous decision. Next, he battled Vuyo Jula and lost the fight after suffering a unanimous decision defeat. Following this, he defeated Micky Cloete after hammering his opponent with multiple punches, leading to a TKO in round two. His next opponent was Luke Henndrikz and he dominated his rival with a rear naked choke in the opening round.
Afterwards, he suffered defeat at the hands of Edson Machavane after getting locked in an armbar in round one. Later he faced Willem Van Rooyen. Rooyeen came with quick punches and a knee strike to the head before a takedown. Rooyen continued to hammer him with a ground and pound but Mngoma had him in a body lock. Mngoma had him in an armbar but Rooyen went in for a double body slam. Mngoma flipped and tried to get a triangle but Rooyen reversed position and stayed on top where he continued with brutal savage blows and elbow shots before a referee stoppage in round one. His last recorded battle was against Ntando Zondi where but he suffered a loss after a first-round TKO.
