Jon Jones is back in the conversation for a historic UFC event, this time on the White House lawn. The former champion has long pushed for a spot, though UFC CEO Dana White has expressed hesitation about trusting “Bones” in such a high-profile setting.
Speaking to fans at The Brook Casino in New Hampshire, Jones confirmed ongoing discussions with the promotion.
“I’m in negotiations with the UFC about this White House thing, as well. I’m a very, very, very proud American, and I cannot wait to represent one more time. So, we’ll see what happens,” Jones said.
The comments mark a shift from his statements during Super Bowl LX weekend, when Jones hinted that he might stay retired.
“I think I could be done,” Jones told Helen Yee. “I’m young enough to compete with some of the best fighters in the world. I am healthy enough to compete with some of the best fighters in the world, but I’ve always been used to competing with the best in the world. It’s a really high standard to uphold. So, maybe it’s just about doing it, doing it right, and getting out at a really good time.”
Jones also reflected on the importance of preserving his long-term health. He shared that he once spoke with a veteran fighter who couldn’t remember his own birthday and noted his own struggles with arthritis in his left hip. If he does take another fight, he hinted it would likely be his last.

Jones’ White House ambitions come after a period of uncertainty. Last year, he retired following extended negotiations to fight interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall. Shortly afterward, President Donald Trump announced plans for a UFC event on the White House lawn. Jones immediately un-retired and campaigned for a spot, though he’s faced skepticism from UFC brass.
“Dana has said he can’t really rely on me for something of this magnitude,” Jones admitted previously.
Complicating matters, a potential showdown with Alex Pereira, a fight both stars have pushed for, remains uncertain. Pereira’s recent decision to vacate the UFC light-heavyweight title has only added fuel to speculation, leaving fans wondering if the long-anticipated matchup with Jones could still happen.
For now, Jones is keeping his options open, signaling that his UFC story may not be finished just yet.
“I cannot wait to represent one more time. So, we’ll see what happens.”
Jones’ return, if confirmed, would mark another historic moment for MMA, combining one of the sport’s biggest names with the spectacle of a White House card.
