Early Life
Johnny Eblen was born on December 13, 1991, in Des Moines, Iowa, to a Korean mother and an American father . He grew up in Kansas City, where at Park Hill High School he became a state wrestling champion . Wrestling extended into college at the University of Missouri, where he compiled an 87–24 record and qualified for the NCAA in 2015. Eblen earned multiple academic All‑MAC honors while wrestling through injuries including a torn meniscus and fractured fibula.
After graduating in 2015, Eblen relocated to Florida, working jobs like paving and coaching wrestling. A chance meeting with Olympic wrestler Steve Mocco led him to join American Top Team in 2016, marking the beginning of his journey into MMA.
MMA Career
Eblen launched his professional MMA career in mid‑2017 under Shamrock FC, announcing his arrival with a series of first‑round finishes. Across four pro bouts, he earned three TKOs and one submission via strikes, all in the opening round
In 2019, Eblen signed with Bellator MMA and debuted at Bellator 218, defeating Chauncey Foxworth by unanimous decision. He steadily climbed the ranks, earning decisive victories over opponents like Taylor Johnson, Daniel Madrid, Collin Huckbody, John Salter, Anatoly Tokov and Fabian Edwards.
On June 24, 2022, at Bellator 282, Eblen delivered a dominant five-round performance against veteran champion Gegard Mousasi, securing a unanimous decision to claim the Bellator Middleweight World Championship . He defended the title against Tokov and earned a highlight-reel knockout over Fabian Edwards at Bellator 299 in September 2023.
Eblen continued to build momentum into the PFL era. In February 2024, he defeated Impa Kasanganay by split decision at the PFL vs. Bellator Champions event. That win clinched the inaugural PFL Middleweight Championship, completing an unbeaten run across promotions.
