Joaquin Buckley is refusing to dwell on his latest defeat after Mike Malott knocked him out at UFC Edmonton on Saturday.
Buckley and Malott headlined the event at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Canada, in a fight many expected to be closely contested. However, Malott delivered a spectacular finish in the second round, catching Buckley with a perfectly timed knee to the jaw.
The knockout marked Buckley’s first stoppage loss since late 2022 and extended his losing streak to three fights. Despite the disappointing result, the welterweight is choosing to focus on the positives, including the entertainment he believes he brought to the fans.
Following UFC Edmonton, Buckley took to Instagram Stories to address the defeat and explain why he remains determined to move forward.
“The fight didn’t go my way – not at all,” Buckley said. “There was a lot of expectations for me to go out there and knock Malott out. But at the end of the day, people were entertained, people enjoyed the show, and I truly believe what I did, at the end of the day, it helped bring more eyes to the game.

“Regardless of what people say, what’s going on, I’m just going to get back to work and keep putting on for the name: ‘I Am Joaquin Buckley.’ It’s my Kick channel. I’m not going to stop. I’m going to keep moving forward. … At the end of the day, I’m a fighter that fights. There are some other things I’m going to get into that I think are really going to help my content … so go follow me, man. For real.”
Buckley’s comments suggest that he intends to remain active outside the Octagon while working toward a return to winning ways. He also hinted at plans to expand his content and give fans a closer look at his team and future projects.
Although Buckley remains positive, his latest defeat represents a significant setback in his UFC career.
