UFC fighter Ian Machado Garry has been eager to get back in the cage and plans to make big waves as soon as he gets back in.
The fighter last appeared in June when he faced Michael Page. The fighter displayed excellent grappling skills and won a unanimous decision. Since the fight, Garry has taken a hiatus from MMA, but it seems he is back and ready to step in as a replacement for Kamaru Usman, who was slated to face Shavkat Rakhmonov. The winner of the non-title fight will get a chance to face Belal Muhammad when he recovers from his bone infection.
Garry is excited about this comeback and revealed he plans to move up to middleweight to challenge the champ. He says he is gunning for gold in two different divisions and is willing to do what it takes to achieve this dream.
“I’m a young kid who’s dreamed of being here, who wanted to see his face on billboards.” Ian Garry told Ariel Helwani,“[I] wanted to do shows against the scariest people in the world. I’ve told you before that my ideal scenario is to fight and beat Shavkat and then win the welterweight title.”
“I go up to middleweight, I fight Khamzat [Chimaev] and win that belt too. I’m not afraid of any man. I know how talented I am. I know the gifts God gave me.”
Although his fight is with Rakhmonov, Garry has still not taken his eyes off his longtime opponent, Colby Covington. The fighter plans to defeat Rakhmonov and then go on to beat Covington when given an opportunity.
“I’ve been screaming and shouting about fighting that man from the rafters. This man’s made videos about me, my wife, my kids, talked all this s**t and here’s this man avoiding me like the plague… I would love to beat Shavkat and the following week, fight as the main event in Tampa and, bury Colby Covington and leave him dead and done in that octagon, never to be seen again.”
There is no set date for his fight with Covington as the American fighter is set to face Joaquin Buckley in his next outing, but Garry is hopeful he will get a shot. For now, Garry is concerned about making a name for himself and believes he has much to achieve in his career.
