UFC star Conor McGregor has had a tough time in 2024, from suffering a toe injury to a sexual allegation in 2018. Now, the fighter has come under attack once again as he faced a sexual assault lawsuit following an incident that took place at the Miami Heat basketball game in 2023.
The victim is 49-year-old Jane Doe–name withheld to protect her identity– who claims to be a resident of Miami-Dade County in Florida. The victim alleges that McGregor assaulted her in a bathroom at an NBA Finals game two years ago. Although there was an investigation into the incident in 2023, no charges were ever filed against McGregor.
Jane Doe claims she met the Irish fighter at the Kesaya Center’s Courtside Club after the game. Reports from staff say McGregor was inebriated on one or more bottles of Proper No. 12 Irish whiskey and tequila. The accuser’s attorney says that the fighter’s security detail separated her from her friends and led her to the men’s bathroom, where the Irishman and his security guard were already waiting for her. She alleges that the defendant slammed her against a wall and put her in an armlock, which restrained her arms, and she was then forced to perform non-consensual sexual acts.
As a result of the alleged sexual assault, the victim claims she suffered “physical, psychological and emotional damages.”The lawsuit was filed in the Southern District of Florida, and it names Basketball Properties LLC, the operator of the Kaseya Center, as a co-defendant. The accuser is reportedly seeking compensation exceeding $75,000 and coverage for past and future medical expenses, legal fees, and additional remedies.
The fighter has pleaded innocent and says the accusations against him are false. His lawyers are confident that these are false accusations in an attempt to extort the fighter.
“After a thorough investigation at the time, the State’s Attorney concluded that there was no case to pursue,” Llanes said. “Almost two years and at least three lawyers later, the plaintiff has a new false story. We are confident that this case, too will be dismissed.”
Following the initial investigation into the allegations, Miami police opted not to file charges against McGregor, with his attorney stating at the time that “after a thorough investigation, including a review of videos and interviews with eyewitnesses, the authorities have concluded that there is no case to pursue against [Conor McGregor].”
This latest lawsuit filed against McGregor comes after a jury in Ireland found him liable of sexual assault in a separate civil case stemming from an alleged incident that happened back in 2018. Now, he faces new allegations in this latest lawsuit against him in Florida.
