Conor McGregor is once again stirring the pot, and this time, he’s aiming straight at Floyd Mayweather.
Years after their blockbuster boxing clash, Conor McGregor says he’s ready to cash in on Mayweather’s long-teased promise of an MMA fight. The Irish star even has a location and timeline in mind: the White House lawn, sometime this summer.
McGregor and Mayweather headlined one of the biggest pay-per-view events in combat sports history in 2017. Mayweather stopped McGregor in the 10th round before retiring from professional boxing. In the aftermath, the boxing legend repeatedly floated the idea of returning for a UFC bout as part of a massive, rumored deal. Nothing materialized, until now.
On Tuesday, Conor McGregor took to social media to share a throwback clip from their international media tour. The nostalgia quickly turned into a challenge.
“Fun times @danawhite, @ufc!” McGregor wrote.“@Floyd Mayweather, when you are ready for that promised MMA bout, I am here. The White House is nice in the summer I heard.”

McGregor didn’t stop there.
“Just kidding Mike! Although… I could fight both the same night,” he added.
“Floyd MMA? EASY. 10 seconds.”
The message carried a double meaning that didn’t go unnoticed. “Mike” appeared to reference both Michael Chandler, McGregor’s long-anticipated UFC opponent, and Mike Tyson, who is reportedly scheduled to face Mayweather in an exhibition bout later this year. Any MMA rematch would almost certainly derail that plan.
Conor McGregor has been sidelined since suffering a leg break against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in 2021. He was expected to return against Chandler last year but withdrew due to injury. Despite the absence, McGregor continues to dominate headlines and remains one of the UFC’s biggest draws.
The timing of the callout is no accident. Last year, President Donald Trump and UFC CEO Dana White announced plans for a historic UFC event on the White House lawn as part of celebrations for America’s 250th anniversary.
The announcement sparked immediate interest from top fighters, and McGregor was among the first to raise his hand.
While Mayweather retired after beating McGregor, he has stayed active through global exhibition bouts against celebrities, boxers, and MMA fighters. None, however, has taken place inside the octagon.
Whether serious or strategic, Conor McGregor has once again placed himself at the center of the combat sports conversation. An MMA rematch with Mayweather may sound unlikely, but when McGregor talks, the world still listens.
