The city of Lagos, Nigeria, was rocked with excitement on December 29th, 2024, as AKO held its 7th edition fight tournament. The night was one to remember, featuring exciting fights and spectacular takedowns.
In the main event of AKO 7, Daniel Emeka battled Segun Ogunnoiki in the middleweight division. Ogunnoiki last appeared at AKO 5, where he defeated Yao Marcel with a round-one knockout. Since then, the fighter has only been in one MMA fight, which took place in Thailand. However, the fighter is back and ready to take on more opponents. Ogunnoiki began the round with a flying kick, but Emeka smoothly evaded this mover. The two moved cautiously around each other with leg kicks before Emeka went in for a takedown. The two went into a body lock and tried to land damaging punches, but neither gave any leeway and remained in this position until the round ended.
Round two began with a straight right from Ogunnoiki and Emeka following a missed leg kick. Ogunnoiki went for a takedown, but Emeka remained on his feet and stayed in a clinch. “Machine Gun Shegz” fired some heavy body shots and went for a kick, but Emeka evaded the kick and went in for a takedown. He went into a full mount and peppered Ogunnoiki with body and headshots. Ogunnoiki tried for a leg triangle, but Emeka kept at it with elbow shots. The two remained on the canvas, with Emeka trying to flip Ogunnoiki until the round ended.
Segun Ogunnoiki got lucky in the third round when Emeka went in for a kick and fell. Ogunnoiki went in for a full mount and landed some heavy headshots, but Emeka reversed the position and was soon on top, punishing headshots and body shots. The two continued to exchange punches and jabs till the fight came to a close. In the end, Emeka emerged victorious via unanimous decision.
Jubrin Inuwa Baba faced Abdoul Sankara in the co-main event fight of AKO 7. Inuwa came in with savage leg kicks, but Sankara retaliated with kicks that didn’t connect. Inuwa landed a vicious right hook and followed with a straight jab. He landed another damaging left hook before going for a takedown, but Sankara recovered and got back to his feet, but not for long as Inuwa took him down once again, and the two remained in the body lock with both exchanging head shots till the round came to an end.
Inuwa came in with heavy shots in the second round and soon went in for a takedown. He delivered punishing head shots and body shots before Sankara kicked him off and got back on his feet. The two soon got into a clinch, with Sankara landing knee shots before flipping Inuwa to the canva, but the two were soon back on their feet. Inuwa soon went for a takedown, but the two remained in a body lock till the round came to a close.
The final round began with Sankara’s leg kick, but Inuwa went in for a body shot. The two went in for a clinch with both landing knee shots, but Inuwa scored a lucky shot after landing a leg kick that tripped Sankara and took him to the canva, where Inuwa went into a full mount landing head and body shots. Sankara tried to guard his face and landed some punches of his but Inuwa had the upper hand. The two remained in this position, with Inuwa landing more damaging punches until the fight ended, with Inuwa defeating Sankara via unanimous decision.
