Two mixed martial artists grappling on the mat inside a cage; fighter in yellow shorts on top pinning the opponent

Jackiel Ayana secured an impressive first-round submission victory over Victor Dooga in the featherweight main event of Akalaka 009.

Abuja became the battleground for a night of combat sports as Akalaka Spirit of the Warrior presented Battle of the Mystic Sword, bringing local and international attention to Nigeria’s growing mixed martial arts scene. The event took place on Saturday, October 31, at 21 Arena, National Council for Arts and Culture, Abuja, with fighters stepping into the cage to compete for recognition and the prestigious Mystic Sword trophy.

The headline bout featured featherweights Jackiel “Smiling Assassin” Ayana and Victor “The Benue Boy” Dooga. With the main event closing the show, both fighters had the opportunity to make a statement in front of the Abuja crowd and leave their mark on the Battle of the Mystic Sword card.

The fight begins and both fighters take their time feeling each other out in the opening exchanges, with neither rushing into an early engagement. Ayana opens the striking with a leg kick, while Dooga responds with kicks of his own as the two gradually begin exchanging punches. Ayana then lands a well-timed leg kick that disrupts Dooga’s balance and nearly sends him crashing to the canvas. However, Dooga manages to stay upright before Ayana takes the fight to the ground and follows up with ground-and-pound.

Dooga attempts to work his way back to his feet, but Ayana brings him back down and quickly secures a choke. With the submission firmly locked in, Dooga taps out, bringing the contest to an end in the first round. Ayana claims the victory with a first-round submission, making a statement in the night’s main event.

Casmir Stops Daniel in the Second Round

Elsewhere on the night’s fight card, Casmir delivers a dominant performance against Daniel, securing a second-round TKO victory. The opening round begins with both fighters trading punches before Casmir responds with a leg kick. The two continue exchanging strikes, but Casmir soon looks to take the fight to the ground. He secures the takedown and brings Daniel down to the canvas. Daniel works from his back, attempting to escape, but Casmir maintains control. Daniel briefly manages to turn the position around and gets on top for a few seconds before Casmir regains control and drives him against the cage.

Casmir remains in a dominant position, keeping Daniel pinned against the fence while landing elbows and punches. He also attempts to lock in a choke, but Daniel continues to defend and fight his way out of the submission attempts. Casmir maintains the pressure and lands more ground strikes as the opening round progresses.

The second round begins with Daniel throwing a leg kick, but Casmir avoids the attack and quickly shoots for another takedown. He gets Daniel to the canvas and immediately follows up with a series of punches. With Daniel unable to effectively defend himself against the ground-and-pound, the referee steps in to stop the contest. Casmir earns a second-round TKO victory after a dominant display of wrestling and ground control.
