Nigeria-born athlete Benjamin Edozie made National history as he represented Nigeria at the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF).

With an amateur record of 9-1, Edozie has built his name with consistent wins and strong performances. He currently holds the number one spot in the Amateur Lightweight division in the UK and Ireland. The fighter’s steady rise to success set him on the path that led him to victory as he carried Nigeria’s flag all the way to the global stage in the MMA world..

Edozie has fought across different promotions in Europe, proving himself against tough opponents. In 2024, he beat Taylor Sullivan by unanimous decision at Almighty Fighting Championship 36, then went on to edge Tom Di Gasparro in a split decision at Cage Warriors Academy South East. He followed that up with a first-round submission win over Lee Thompson at FCC 40. Most recently, in August 2025, Edozie submitted Odin Wouters with a D’arce choke at LFL New Talent 15 in Amsterdam. To snag this recent IMMAF victory, the athlete successfully defeated opponents from Bulgaria, Zambia and England to win his place in the semi-finals.

Now, the athlete has made history by winning second place and bringing home the silver. His latest win secured him a spot at the No.2 world ranking at 2025 MMA World Championships. In light of his win, the fighter felt disappointed at not winning gold but he was appreciative for the opportunity.

“Bittersweet final day at the world championships, truly believed I would come home with Gold and as the number 1 in the world but God has other plans for me. It would be an insult to my hard work, coaches and country to not be proud of my time in Georgia. 16 months into my MMA career, I’ve earned a silver medal at IMMAF worlds, and amassed a record of 13 wins and 2 losses against the highest calibre of opponents. This is the beginning of my journey, and I’m extremely grateful for anyone who has supported me or shown love thus far. Edoizie wrote on Instagram. “I want to give thanks to the @nationalsportscommissionng for making this possible and for their continued support. What’s next for me, I’m not sure, but I will re-group and assess. I believe I’ve only scratched the surface of my potential, and hopefully have inspired many young athletes to believe in themselves🥊❤️🇳🇬”

Edozie’s appearance at IMMAF marked a major step for Nigerian MMA as he set a new record for wins by a Nigerian fighter in the competition.

For Edozie, this is more than just a fight; it was an opportunity to showcase Nigerian talent on an international platform and inspire other fighters back home that they can not only break barriers but also be the next at IMMAF.
