UFC Abu Dhabi: Marlon Vera

UFC fighter Marlon Vera faced Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC Abu Dhabi and lost following a unanimous decision.

The fight was his first after he lost his title to Sean O’Malley at UFC 299. The fighter was looking to make a comeback but unfortunately fell short. “Chito” came in strong in the first round but slowed down afterwards and couldn’t put up an offensive attack. He continued to lag behind while Figueiredo kept up the pace and continued to rain down blows and hard strikes until the fight came to a close.

Following his defeat, Vera released a statement on Instagram admitting he came back into the octagon too soon and should have given himself more time to recover.

“I fail at myself last night,” Vera wrote. “I thought I was ready. I felt good in the gym, but at the end, maybe I come back too quick after a hard title fight. Life doesn’t end here. I still dream about big things; I just need time to let go and reset.”.

UFC Abu Dhabi: Cory Sandhagen

Cory Sandhagen also released a statement following his loss to Umar Nurmagomedov at UFC Abu Dhabi. “The Sandman had plans on being a contender for the bantamweight title, but it seems he will have to wait a bit longer. His recent loss put him behind on the contender list and also broke his three-fight win streak.

“Tough sport,” Sandhagen wrote in a caption. Umar is really world-class—it was an honour to fight one of the world’s best. Congrats to him. I’m going to keep getting better like I always do. Thanks for the support. I love you guys.”
