UFC president Dana White made a shocking announcement on Thursday: McGregor’s exemption from the UFC 303. The news came a few days after McGregor’s opponent, Michael Chandler, was removed from the MMA rankings due to inactivity.

Speculation was rife about the possible cancellation of the UFC 303 bout after a news conference appearance on June 3 in Dublin was abruptly canceled. Conor McGregor, who has been out of the octagon since July 2021 after sustaining a career-threatening leg injury, was poised for a triumphant comeback. However, it seems he will have to bide his time for another chance.

While Dana White has not provided a clear indication of the extent of the damage, it is believed the injury was sustained during a sparring session and is not severe. In place of the Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler fight as the UFC 303 main event, UFC will be treating fans to a light heavyweight championship title fight between champion Alex Pereira and challenger Jiri Prochazka. The fight card also includes other thrilling matchups such as Brian Ortega vs Diego Lopes as the co-main event, and Carlos Ulberg vs Anthony Smith.

Although it is yet to be disclosed, the fighter may return for a battle this year as he remains UFC’s top attraction.
