Movsar Evloev has broken his silence after suffering the first defeat of his professional MMA career at UFC 333.
The undefeated featherweight contender entered Saturday’s main event in Abu Dhabi hoping to dethrone Alexander Volkanovski and claim UFC gold. However, the reigning champion delivered a standout performance, stopping Evloev with a second-round TKO at Etihad Arena.
Despite the disappointing result, Evloev gave Volkanovski credit for his performance and praised the 38-year-old for continuing to improve with age.
“It was a terrible fight,” Evloev told Daniel Cormier during his post-fight interview. “He’s like good wine. Older, stronger, better. He’s truly a legend. He’s still good and I’m grateful for this opportunity to be here. This is great land, and I love my brothers here. Thank you, Abu Dhabi.”
The defeat ended Evloev’s unbeaten run after he built an impressive record through 10 consecutive UFC victories. The 32-year-old had worked his way into title contention through years of consistent performances, but he now faces the challenge of rebuilding after his first professional setback.

“I didn’t prove that I’m the best,” Evloev said. “I’m not yet. Maybe we’ll try again. I need to go home, take some rest and recovery my injuries. But like I said, Alex is a great champion, and I’m glad to be here to share the cage with him. Better to lose to the guy like him than to somebody who is not good like him. Thank you.”
Going into UFC 333, Evloev faced questions about whether his fighting style could attract enough interest to earn him another title opportunity if he failed to beat Volkanovski.
Although the Russian contender had established himself as one of the featherweight division’s most consistent fighters, critics have often questioned the excitement surrounding his performances.
MMA legend Jose Aldo previously suggested that the UFC should release Evloev if he lost to Volkanovski, adding another layer of pressure to the title challenger’s biggest fight.
