EARLY LIFE
Salahuddin Plaatjies is a season MMA fighter who started his combat sport career in Boxing before transitioning to MMA. He is ranked #22 in South Africa’s pro flyweights and has been in fourteen amateurs and five professional fights.
MMA CAREER
The fighter began his amateur MMA career competing at FightstarFC, EWC, the 2018/2019 IMMAF -WMMAA United World Championships, and Alpha MMA. His first battle was against Ericoo Joson, whom he defeated by unanimous decision.
Next, he battled Jordan Chetty and won the fight. Afterward, he faced Asiashu Tshitamba and won the match by a majority decision. Next, he dominated Wade Loots after locking his opponent in a guillotine choke that led to a round-one submission. Soon after, he went up against Mohammed Salah AlMuamari and won the fight after a unanimous decision. He soon lost his next battle against Gift Walker due to a unanimous decision. Afterward, he fought Katiso Matime and won the fight after his opponent tapped out to a guillotine choke.
Plaatjies soon had a chance to redeem himself against Gift Walker, and he beat him with a rear naked choke. Next, he destroyed Ata Atdayev and won the battle following a unanimous decision. After this, he lost to Mohammed Salah AlMuamari due to a unanimous decision. He soon faced Christain Mulamba and won the battle following a submission in round one. After a disqualification in the third round, he defeated his next opponent, Abdulla Alyaqoob. He lost his next battle against Mansur Magomedov via a unanimous decision. His last recorded amateur battle was against Clint Luow, and he won the fight after trapping his opponent in a rear naked choke that led to a tapout.
Plaatjies finally made his professional debut at EFC 88, where he battled Teboho Ntene. After an exchange of punches, Plaatjies soon had Ntene on the floor in a rear naked choke that put him to sleep, but it took quite a while before the referee called a stoppage.
Next, he faced Wade Kerspuy and won the fight following a series of punches that led to a TKO in round one. Subsequently, he battled Fafa Owama, losing the match to a split decision. His next opponent was Magno Alves, and the two came in swinging hard punches before a takedown by ‘Popeye.’ The two were soon back on their feet, but Plaatjies went for a takedown. Alves soon got in Plaatjies back and landed some hard strikes. He went in for an armbar, but ‘Shady’ escaped, and Alve landed some elbow shots before the round came to an end.
The two grappled on the floor in round two before getting back on their feet. Plaatjies landed a nasty uppercut, and ALves counted with a left kick and right hook. They continued their exchange till the round ended. Both opponents continued their fiery exchange in round three with Alves’ right cross by Plaatjies and a leg kick. They continued their exchange with precise connecting blows and leg kicks. Shady landed a knee-to-head strike and soon backed his opponent to the cage with a left-right combo, but Alves escaped. Plaatjies continued firing shots, but one precise left hook by Alves took him out.
His last recorded match was against Tumeleo Manyamala, and he lost the fight after a flurry of punches led to a TKO in round two.
