UFC Veteran Diego Sanchez receives five-year Probation. Former UFC fighter and Hall of Famer Diego Sanchez has been sentenced following his arrest on gun-related charges stemming from a July 2025 incident in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

On Thursday, a judge in Albuquerque sentenced the UFC Hall of Famer to five years of supervised probation, according to local outlet KOB 4, which was present in the courtroom during the proceedings. The incident reportedly occurred when Sanchez was a passenger in a vehicle that passed by the scene of a car crash. Authorities stated that a firearm was discharged from the vehicle into the air, prompting law enforcement to intervene. While Sanchez denied being the one who fired the weapon, he acknowledged the presence of a gun in the car at the time. As part of a plea agreement, an additional charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon was dismissed.

Prosecutors had initially pushed for a custodial sentence, but the court ultimately ruled in favor of probation rather than jail time. Following the sentencing, Sanchez expressed remorse for his actions, taking responsibility and urging younger generations to avoid similar behavior. He also revealed that he has been undergoing treatment and receiving support for mental health challenges.

“All I can do is take accountability, own it, and spread positivity for the youth of the next generation to change these ways, man,” Sanchez told reporters. “Not to be shooting out windows like cowboys.” The 44-year-old is widely known for his long UFC career, including winning the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter and later competing for a UFC title. Sanchez competed 32 times inside the octagon, winning 19 bouts and fighting for a UFC title.

Sanchez’s June 2009 fight with Clay Guida at the TUF 9 Finale was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2009. After parting ways with the UFC following a 2020 loss to Jake Matthews, Sanchez went 0-2 in losses to Kevin Lee for Eagle FC in March 2022, and Austin Trout at BKFC KnuckleMania 3 in February 2023.

Despite his legacy inside the octagon, this case marks a difficult chapter in his post-fighting life.Once celebrated for his warrior spirit inside the cage, Diego Sanchez now faces a different kind of battle outside of it. His next steps will determine whether this moment becomes a turning point or just another chapter in a complicated journey.
