Nate Diaz built the “BMF” moment in 2019 and now he wants the belt back.
When Diaz called out Jorge Masvidal, he didn’t just set up a fight. He sparked the creation of the first-ever “BMF” title at UFC 244. What started as a one-off promotional idea quickly evolved into one of the UFC’s most talked-about championships. And according to Diaz, none of it happens without him.
On Wednesday, Diaz took to X to remind everyone who started it all.
“Let’s not act like I didn’t start a whole division bringing value to all these guys claiming they’re it,” Diaz wrote. “I gave opportunity and put notice on the dopest fights. I got unfinished business and I plan on going and taking what’s mine ASAP. First to ever start a division and the dopest one at that.
“You’re welcome motherf*ckers. I’ll see you soon. I’m coming.”
Diaz doubled down on Instagram, posting a photo of the BMF title with the caption: “unfinished business.”
Although Diaz never officially won the belt — the doctor stopped the original fight against Masvidal after the third round due to severe cuts, many fans credit Diaz with giving the BMF title its identity. He sold the attitude. He sold the edge. He made it matter.
After the Masvidal loss, Diaz stayed active in the UFC. He went 1-1 in his final two appearances, submitting Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 before dropping a decision to future welterweight champion Leon Edwards. The Ferguson fight marked the end of Diaz’s UFC contract, and he parted ways with the promotion soon after.
Diaz then stepped into boxing. He suffered a high-profile loss to Jake Paul but later avenged his defeat to Masvidal in their boxing rematch. Even while competing outside the UFC, Diaz repeatedly hinted at a return to the Octagon.

It has been nearly four years since fans watched Diaz compete inside the cage. Meanwhile, the BMF title continued to headline major cards. Current champion Max Holloway is set to defend the belt against Charles Oliveira in the main event of UFC 326. As of now, neither man has responded to Diaz’s comments, but the timing is impossible to ignore.
A Diaz comeback creates multiple blockbuster options. A BMF title fight would write itself. A trilogy bout with Conor McGregor, who has teased his own return, would also generate massive interest. UFC CEO Dana White has long said the door remains open for Diaz.
And judging by his latest message, Diaz is ready to walk right back through it.
“I got unfinished business,” Diaz posted.
