Valentina Shevchenko didn’t hold back after Khabib Nurmagomedov once again questioned women competing in MMA.

Nurmagomedov has consistently voiced his stance against women in combat sports, arguing that they should focus on traditional roles rather than fighting. His latest comments, suggesting women are “weak” compared to men, quickly sparked backlash across the MMA world.

Shevchenko responded directly, and she made her stance crystal clear.

“Women are weak?!” Shevchenko wrote. “Tell that to my sister—an airline captain. Or tell it to the ‘Night Witches,’ the all-female bomber regiment of World War II, who dropped bombs under the cover of darkness with their engines off and landed in total darkness without lights. Go ahead, tell them who is stronger.”

She didn’t stop there. Valentina Shevchenko emphasized that strength has nothing to do with gender — and everything to do with mindset and upbringing.

“It all depends entirely on one’s upbringing,” she continued. “You can just as easily raise a man to be a helpless milksop who is incapable of doing anything. Martial arts represent a warrior tradition where there is no distinction between man and woman. There is only the art itself. That is precisely why people train — to become more graceful, stronger, and wiser.”

The response adds another chapter to the ongoing debate around women’s MMA — a space that has evolved significantly over the years.

Even UFC CEO Dana White once resisted the idea of women fighting in the promotion. That changed when stars like Ronda Rousey forced the conversation into the mainstream, eventually leading to multiple women’s divisions and championship belts.

Today, fighters like Valentina Shevchenko continue to redefine what’s possible, building legacies that stand alongside the very best in the sport.

As for Nurmagomedov, his legacy remains untouchable inside the cage. But outside of it, voices like Shevchenko are making it clear, the narrative around women in MMA has already changed.
