The UFC Vegas 101 was a night of exhilarating fights as fighters displayed spectacular sportsmanship in the octagon.Co-headlining the event was the welterweight battle between Santiago Ponzinibbio and Carlston Harris.
The Brazillian fighter came on with a lot of energy, but it seemed Harris was going to emerge victorious due to his height advantage. He scored a takedown in the first round, leaving Ponzinibbio to struggle to keep up, but Harris was on his side with heavy shots that Ponzibbio fought to evade. The fighter managed to make it through the brutal round.
Ponzinibbio found his footing in the following rounds and came for Harris with body shots and accurate punches. The aggressive onslaught started to catch up with Harris and he soon began to fade, but he remained on his feet. The Brazillian delivered punishing shots until the referee called the fight in the final round.
“I put my heart [out there] one more time,” Ponzinibbio said about the win. “This is what I do inside the cage. I’m here fighting with the best guys in the world.”
“It stopped a little early,” Harris said about the conclusion of the fight. “He caught me clean. As soon as he stopped the fight, I said, ‘I’m in.’”
The night was thrilling as many fighters had spectacular finishes, with Dern scoring an armbar submission and Roman Kopylov suffering a cut after his win over Chris Curtis and many more. Some fighters ,like Ceasar Almeida, Abdul Razak Alhassan, Roman Kopylov and Mackenzie Dern, earned a $50,000 POFN.
