Following the highly anticipated clash between Usyk and Fury, Usyk emerged victorious, claiming the undisputed heavyweight championship title. However, the excitement doesn’t end there. Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, is confident that a rematch will give the Brit another chance to dethrone the champion. The inclusion of a rematch clause in the match contract ensures that both opponents will step into the ring once again, sparking anticipation among fans. While a date has yet to be decided, the promise of a rematch is enough to keep the excitement alive.
“The rematch was signed before the fight first took place anyways,” Warren told Sky Sports. “ And that date will be set within the next month or so, both fighters said they want it and we’ll go from there. It was a fabulous fight, two absolute gladiators who didn’t leave anything in the ring in an epic fight in the most important fight of the 21st century.”
Warren is confident that the rematch will prove to be an even bigger and better clash between the two warriors.
“One thing about it for sure, it was such a good fight. When the rematch happens, I think it will be bigger and better next time.” He said. “It’s going to be interesting to see what the fight has taken out of both boxers. Because I was in the dressing room with both boxers, and you see them–I’ve been doing this for 47 years now. I can look at a guy and know how it’s affected him. Especially when fighters get a little bit older, how are they going to be? So, especially if the rematch happens, which I believe it will, one of them or both of them will be effected by being in that battle. It was such a battle, and it took a lot out of them.
The classic battle took place over the past weekend, and both opponents battled for 12 rounds. The match ended with the crowning of the first heavyweight champion since Lennox 25 years ago. It also served as Fury’s first loss in his professional career, but the Briton believes he was robbed and deserved the win. His promoter, Warren, also agrees with him. In a meeting with The MMA Hour, he told Ariel Helwani:
“I watched it back–I’m biased, How I scored he fight, I scored the first round to Tyson. I thought the second could have gone either way, probably a draw, and I thought Tyson won rounds 3,4,5,6. … [Usyk] came out like a train in round 8. He found a second wind or whatever that was … and took the fight to Tyson. Tyson got caught on the nose, he kept touching his nose… and he just lost a little bit of focus during that moment. He lost his composure a bit. Usyk won that round. Then Usyk 10-8 round for the ninth, he won the 10th and he win the 11th but I thought Tyson won the 12th round.”
