EARLY LIFE


Segun Ogunnoiki, aka ‘Machine Gun Shegz,’ is an upcoming fighter making headlines after his consecutive victories in the AKO show. The lawyer-turned-MMA fighter hails from Ogun state and is a graduate of the University of Abuja.

Ogunnoiki has been into combat sports for over ten years and believes in his skills and capabilities as an athlete. The fighter has always had a passion for combat sport and is skilled at kickboxing, Taekwando and jui-jitsu.He has also a Muay Thai expert and received his training in Thailand where he also competed. Ogunnoiki dreams of becoming a professional UFC fighter in the near future. He currently runs a kickboxing and MMA training program in abuja where he teaches and sponsors young boys to compete in MMA.


MMA CAREER


The MMA fighter has been in seven professional fights, all sponsored and hosted by the African Knockout [AKO] show. He auditioned for the show’s debut and was among the first picks for the show’s second part. The season one edition kicked off in 2020 and brought the dawn of upcoming MMA talents like Segun Ogunnoiki, Cornel Thompson, Damilare Abdulrahim and many others.

He made his debut in the show by scoring his first win against Yuvoke Collins in the welterweight division. After multiple strikes and a rear naked choke, Collins conceded in round three, leading Segun to victory. After this bout, Ogunnoki faced off against his next opponent Richard Onem, aka ‘Black Panther’ and won with a KO/TKO in the second round, leading to his advancement into the next fight.

In his next bout, Ogunnoki faced off Cornel Thompson ‘The Marine Boxer’. He destroyed him with a rear naked choke winning the match via submission. Next, he hit a break in his winning streak when he came face to face with Ndidi Alonu and lost the fight in the third round to a unanimous decision.

The experienced fighter is skilled in multiple fighting styles, competed in the Professional Fighting Championship in Owerri. He participated in the Kickboxing event, where he squared up against Jude Ezugwu and emerged victorious with a KO/TKO win in round 2.

Later on, the rising fighter made headlines at the FOFN 2 when he dominated Togolese superstar Ayivor Mawuko in Round three by Ground & Pound. Unfortunately, Ogunnoki could not maintain his winning streak and was destroyed in the first round by Cherif Drame via TKO. He was able to bounce back in his next fight and won his battle against Sares Yacouba in the AKO1 Championship.

His last recorded battle was at the AKO3 championship where he battled Flex Munwe. The round started with explosives punches from Munwe and he went in for a takedown before mounting Ogunnoiki. Luckily “Machine gun shegz” managed to flip the position and get back on his feet. He delivered a flurry of shots but Ogunnoiki remained on the backfoot and kept his guard up. Munwe went for a takedown but Ogunnoiki swiftly got back and responded with a left jab. He stalked Ogunnoiki around the cage and went in for another takedown.

Round two began with Munwe going for yet another takedown and landing heavy strikes and body shots. Ogunnoiki kept his defence up and stayed in the round but Munwe continued with his deadly onslaught. Ogunnoiki managed to flip him and landed a few strikes. He tried for a choke hold but Munwe slipped through and managed yet another takedown. Both opponents grappled and exchanged precise blows but at the, Munwe emerged following a split decision.

The Nigerian-based fighter well-versed in kickboxing and Taekwondo. He has also participated in welterweight, middleweight, and flyweight divisions in varying competitions.
