Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland has been given a chance to regain his title by facing current champ Dricus Du Plessis.
The last time the two met was at UFC 297 where Dricus defeated Strickland to claim the title. Since then Strickland has been after the belt and plans to take back the title but he has some conditions. “Tarzan” says he wants DDP to meet standing up with no grappling. He knows the champ is a jiu-jitsu expert and wants them to keep the fight on their feet with no takedowns.
“Listen Dutchman, I’m going to need you to be a f*cking man,” Strickland said. “I’m gonna need you to stand up, not go to your knees, and we’re gonna need to strike like men. I know you like to wrestle and you like to f*cking choke people out and do some g*y sh*t, dude, but I’ll make a pact with you, you make a pact with me that we f*cking stand up like f*cking men and we settle this sh*t like men.”
Dricus on the other hand disregarded his offer and tweeted “There are no pacts between lions and men”
Dricus had a successful title defense against Israel Adesanya, submitting him in the fourth round and his bout with Strickland will be his second consecutive defense.
As for Strickland, he earned a split decision victory over Paulo Costa. The general consensus is that the one judge who scored the fight in favor of Costa had a shocking score total.
