ARES FC 40 delivered a measured but competitive night of action in Paris, France, on April 10, with Paulin Begai emerging victorious over Moustapha Diakhaté in their long-awaited rematch to claim the vacant light heavyweight title.

The main event was a rematch built on unfinished business after the pair fought to a draw in their first meeting. This time, Begai left no doubts.

From the opening round, Begai relied on composure and cage control, managing distance and forcing Diakhaté to fight at his pace. Diakhaté, who entered unbeaten, looked to apply pressure and land with power, but struggled to consistently break through Begai’s disciplined approach.

As the fight wore on, Begai’s experience began to show. He mixed his attacks, stayed defensively responsible, and avoided the kind of exchanges that could swing momentum. Diakhaté had moments, particularly when pressing forward, but he couldn’t sustain offense long enough to take over rounds.

After five rounds, the judges sided with Begai, awarding him the decision and the vacant light heavyweight belt.

Other fights on the card include:

Paulin Begai def. Moustapha Diakhaté

Alexis Nicolas def. Jack Woodard

Modibo Diakite def. Rayan Lessa

Sarah Moussaddak def. Maria Hingu

Walid Masmoudi def. Craig McGrattan
