Atef

Egypt’s Mohammad Atef is no stranger to the fight game. With a flawless record in Wushu Sanda— discipline where he’s a two-time world champion and an eight-time African champion — Atef made the leap to MMA in 2021 and hasn’t looked back since. As a part of the inaugural PFL Africa season, he brings his unbeaten mentality, elite striking pedigree, and a hunger for greatness into the cage. In this exclusive Q&A, Atef opens up about his background, training, mindset, and what this new chapter means for African fighters like himself.

Can you tell us about your background and how you got started in MMA?

My background is in Wushu Sanda. I’m a two-time World Champion and an eight-time African Champion and I never lost a single match in the sport. After my last world championship, I decided to make the move to MMA. My first fight was in 2021, and since then, I’ve fallen in love with MMA completely.

How does it feel to be part of the first-ever PFL Africa season?

It feels good. Being selected among the top 8 fighters in Africa is a big honor, and it motivates me even more to represent and compete at the highest level.

What does your typical training camp look like leading up to a PFL Africa fight?

I’m in camp with the best team in Egypt. I train with friends who compete in some of the biggest organizations in the world. The environment pushes me hard every day and helps me prepare like a true professional.

How do you balance striking, grappling, and cardio in your preparation?

I’m a professional MMA fighter. I can balance it all, striking, grappling, cardio, everything. I work hard to stay sharp in every area because I believe I can do it all.

Are you training locally or internationally? Why?

I train here in Egypt because I already have everything I need. I’ve got world-class fighters, amazing coaches, and teammates who are competing globally. We are the best team, and this is home for me.

What’s your approach going into this fight? Are you expecting a stand-up war or a grappling match?

It’s going to be a war. I’m coming to kill, insha’Allah. I’m ready for whatever happens in the cage.

What does it mean to you to compete on African soil in front of African fans?

It’s a great feeling. This isn’t my first time fighting in Africa, and the energy from the African crowd always lifts me up. It means a lot to compete in front of my people.

Do you feel extra pressure or pride fighting in front of your home continent?

I don’t feel any pressure. I’m going to put on a great show and give my best. I will win, insha’Allah.

How do you think PFL Africa will change MMA on the continent?

PFL Africa is a huge opportunity. It will change a lot for African fighters. There are more chances now, more eyes on us, and more ways for African talent to rise.

What’s your goal for this PFL Africa season?

My goal is simple: the belt 👑.

Mohammad Atef represents the new wave of African fighters who are proving that world-class talent doesn’t need to come from overseas gyms. With an undefeated background in Wushu Sanda and a fierce commitment to his MMA journey, he’s stepping into PFL Africa not just to compete but to conquer.
