Outspoken fighter Joaquin Buckley has been known to cause quite a provocative stir in the MMA world. The fighter has been known to call out fighters like Michael Bisping, and most recently, he called out Conor McGregor.
Buckley’s call out to McGregor was quite a shock to MMA fans as the Irishman was already set to battle Michael Chandler when he returned. Many fighters and commentators like Bisping, Chael Sonnen, and Daniel Cormier criticized him for this. They believed the fighter made a wrong decision and wasted his microphone time because McGregor was already booked. UFC CEO Dana White immediately shut down the request at the post-conference interview.
The heated comments from the fighters led to an outburst from Buckley as he took to his social media to address all commentators. “Ya, mommas raised some h*es”. The post did not sit well with Cormier as he went on to unleash an expletive-filled tirade: “Shut up p*ssy!” He continued, “Maybe listen. You had a dumb a** callout. You’re getting talked about by three of the biggest voices in the game. Maybe listen. It was the worst callout in history. Don’t let winning a few fights at 170 pounds get you too excited, bruh. Don’t mention Audrey!”
Over a month has passed since this exchange, and the fighters haven’t seen eye to eye yet. However, all that will change when they finally get a chance to meet at UFC 307. Buckley is quite eager to squash the beef as he has huge respect for DC
“I’ve been praying to the MMA gods that I run into DC,” Buckley told MMA Fighting. “I’m the type [of] person, I’m a fan of Daniel Cormier and all the things that he’s done in his MMA career. If you’re talking about from Strikeforce to coming into the UFC and dominating and ending up winning two straps in the UFC, because of how difficult that is and holding them simultaneously at one time, I’ve got to respect it.
“But at the end of the day, it’s like as fighters, I believe that for me, the things that I’m trying to do. I feel like DC could have helped me with trying to go where I’m trying to go instead of trying to diminish me or break me down.”
Buckley felt quite upset by Cormier’s criticism because the fighter has many views and followers on his page. He believed that Cormier’s comments had portrayed him in a negative light, which led to his outbursts.
“Somebody like him has such a massive voice and a massive platform. Any negative thing that he puts out there on me, there’s a lot of fans that are going to have backlash on me and not kind of see my point of view,” Buckley said. “Because he knew where I was coming from, but regardless, he went to a different direction and took it. That was his choice.”
Now, at the end of the day, we’re all fighters, though, right?” Buckley said. “I will be blessed to get that work with DC because if I can’t really talk it out with you, then we can work it out. Does that make sense? I feel like me and DC, I would love to see DC, but it’s not on some personal [level] like. ‘As soon as I see DC, I’m fitting to swing on him.’ No, because I ain’t about that.
Buckley maintains he has no beef with Cormier and wants to move forward. He plans to make amends at UFC 307 and let bygones be bygones.
“Ain’t no beef on my end,” Buckley said. “I like to [break] balls, too. My thing is, just like at the end of the day, we’re all just having fun, we’re all just talking stuff. But we can really figure this stuff out if there’s an issue or a misunderstanding.”
