Adesanya

Israel Adesanya may be going through the toughest stretch of his career, but retirement isn’t part of the conversation.

The former UFC middleweight champion suffered his fourth consecutive loss after falling to Joe Pyfer in the UFC Seattle main event. Despite the setback, Adesanya remained defiant, making it clear he’s far from done.

“You keep going again and again and again and again,” Adesanya said. “I’m not f*cking leaving. You’ll never stop me. I might get beaten, but I’ll always remain undefeated.”

Before the finish, Israel Adesanya showed flashes of his old brilliance. He controlled range, landed sharp punches, and chopped at Pyfer’s lead leg with precision. At one point, he looked in control and full of confidence.

Pyfer dragged the fight to the ground, threatened with a rear-naked choke, and eventually trapped Adesanya underneath him. With no clear escape, Adesanya absorbed heavy ground-and-pound until referee Herb Dean stepped in to stop the fight.

Even in defeat, Israel Adesanya gave full credit to his opponent.

“I expected the best Joe Pyfer,” Adesanya said. “I knew this was his biggest fight ever, so he was going to bring his best — and he did. There was nothing surprising. He earned it and he did so great. So congrats to Joe Pyfer.”

The loss extends a difficult run for Adesanya, who hasn’t recorded a win since his knockout victory over Alex Pereira in 2023. Still, UFC CEO Dana White didn’t sound concerned about his future.

“He looked good,” White said. “He looked fast, used angles well. I thought he looked great. For Pyfer to come in and beat Israel Adesanya like that, and finish him, it’s pretty impressive.”

Despite the results, Israel Adesanya remains focused on moving forward. He entered the fight looking to test himself after time away, and by his own admission, he got exactly that.

“I said before this fight, it’s been 13 months, I wanted to feel like I’ve been in a fight,” Adesanya said. “He gave me just that.”

For many fighters, a four-fight skid raises serious questions. However, Israel Adesanya isn’t thinking about stepping away, he’s thinking about the next challenge.
