Adesanya

Israel Adesanya is entering a new chapter in his career, and it comes with a surprising twist. Once fierce rivals, Adesanya and Robert Whittaker now find themselves on the same side, training together as teammates.

Adesanya is set to return to the Octagon in just a few weeks, headlining UFC Seattle against Joe Pyfer. It will be his first fight in over a year, and more importantly, a chance to bounce back from a tough three-fight losing streak, including his most recent knockout loss to Nassourdine Imavov.

As he prepares for this crucial comeback, Adesanya has brought in a familiar name to sharpen his tools, former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker.

Their history runs deep. Adesanya and Whittaker first collided in 2019 in a title unification bout, where “The Last Stylebender” delivered a second-round knockout to claim undisputed gold at 185 pounds. Three years later, Adesanya proved his dominance again, earning a clean decision win in their rematch.

However, time has changed the dynamic. The rivalry has evolved into mutual respect—and now, collaboration.

“Rob, man, honestly, one of the best dudes in the game,” Adesanya said on his YouTube channel. “Not just fight-wise—he’s one of the GOATs at middleweight, one of the best from this side of the world, and just a good human being.”

Adesanya admitted that while respect often exists between fighters, training together reveals a different side.

“I knew he had a good spirit because when you fight someone, you feel it,” Adesanya said. “But when you actually train with the guy and get to know him, you realize he’s just a solid person.”

For Adesanya, having Whittaker in camp has added a crucial edge as he pushes toward fight night.

“It’s been a big boost, especially at the end of camp,” he said. “To have a world-class fighter like Rob pushing me, helping me get to the finish line—I’m grateful he’s here.”

Whittaker, who is also coming off back-to-back losses, is expected to move up to light heavyweight in his next outing. But for now, his focus has been helping Adesanya prepare for a must-win moment.

As fight night approaches, Adesanya’s mindset is clear, reset, rebuild, and remind everyone why he once ruled the division. And with a former rival now in his corner, this comeback might carry even more weight.
