Ian Machado Garry has had a longtime beef with Colby Covington and has been eager to step into the octagon with him, but this fight may never come to fruition.
Garry has been vying for a fight with his rival Covington and even called him out after winning his recent bout, but Covington’s camp went in another direction. The fighter is set to face Joaquin Buckley after the fighter’s [Buckley] bout with Garry was cancelled.
The fight was scheduled to take place at UFC 310, but Garry pulled out on short notice to replace welterweight champion Belal Muhammad after he was forced to withdraw. The Irishman will fight Shavkat Rakhmonov, whom he has been looking for to go toe-to-toe with.
Although the fighter is happy to get an opportunity to face one of the top welterweight fighters, he would have liked a chance to beat Covington in the cage. Seeing as that dream may never come to pass, Garry is content with wishing Buckley good luck in his upcoming bout with Covington.
“This just shows he’s been ducking me for f*****g 7-8 months,” Machado Garry said on Instagram. “I signed for the baddest man in the division, and this guy comes out of the shadows. He is a p***y, he’s a bitch, and one day I will get my hands on him. Joaquin Buckley, I am behind you 100 per cent of the way. Go out and put that man to sleep. Please and thank you. Do it for me because he’s not able to do it against me.”
The Irishman revealed he is rooting for Buckley and hopes he knocks out “Chaos”.
“Honestly, I was pushing for the Shavkat fight. I was pushing.” Ian Machado Garry said. “I was pushing for undefeated versus undefeated. We’ve trained together, we know how good we are, and we both respect each other. He probably respects me a lot less than I respect him, which is okay. That’s okay. That’s the way it should be at that point in our careers. But the truth is, I will take his 0, and I will take that belt.”
