Figueiredo

Following his brawl with Cory Sandhagen, Deiveson Figueiredo suffered a knee injury at UFC Des Moines. Fortunately, the fighter won’t have to undergo surgery.

In the second round of his bout with Sandhagen, Figueiredo’s opponent sat up while locking him in a hold. The move jerked Figueiredo’s knee forward, causing immediate pain that led to his submission. He had to be escorted out of the octagon. A replay revealed that his knee had popped out of the socket, sparking concerns that surgery would be necessary.

However, on Thursday, Figueiredo’s manager, Alex Davis, confirmed that the Brazilian suffered a tear in the anterolateral ligament of his knee, but the injury wasn’t severe enough to require surgery. Instead, Figueiredo will undergo physical therapy, which he’s already started, and rest the knee as he recovers.

For now, there’s no exact date for his return, but Figueiredo is eager to get back into the cage. He says he’s anxious to resume training once his knee heals and expects to hit the ground running.
