Las Vegas recently played host to the UFC’s recent tournament, which featured a number of amazing fights. One of which was Ian Garry’s unanimous decision win against Michael Page. However, the aftermath of this fight was shrouded in controversy, as UFC CEO Dana White did not believe Garry was worthy of the win.

“Sean [Shelby] and Mick [Maynard] felt that fight would play put exactly the way it did, we talked about it leading up to this fight,” White said at the post-fight conference. “I had that fight a draw. If [the judges] came out and said that fight was a draw, that’s exactly what I thought that fight was too. Obviously, Ian won the first round, MVP won the second round, and it was 50/50 in the third round. What was crazy was MVP had that top position and gave it up. He could have just rode that thing out and won the round. He stood up and gave up that top position.”

White broke down the round play-by-play and believed it should have ended in a draw. Although Page landed more punches and kicks, Garry grabbed him to the floor, where he had more skills. However, when it came to striking, Page had a better advantage.

Page’s biggest mistake was falling off the dominant position after gaining the upper hand on Garry during their grapple. This error ultimately cost him the fight. Despite this defeat, Page’s first since leaving Bellator, the fight has left fans hopeful for his future matches. On the other hand, Garry’s undefeated streak in the welterweight division has left him in high spirits.
