The backlash began after the UFC confirmed that featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski will rematch Diego Lopes as the main event of UFC 325, scheduled for January 31, 2026 in Sydney, Australia. The booking has frustrated many fans because Volkanovski already defeated Lopes in April 2025 at UFC 314, leading many to question the merit of a second title fight so soon.
The lack of big names and relevant matchups on the card has led to a lot of blowback from UFC fans . White, evidently, has heard the criticisms. Addressing the criticism in an interview with Complex, White did not mince words. When asked about fans voicing their disappointment.
“If you don’t like it, don’t watch it.”
“It was just the fight that made sense.” we get in that room and we start putting s**t together…” White added, defending the internal matchmaking process and describing the main event as a fight his team felt was justifiable.
The criticism isn’t limited to the main event. After the UFC 325 lineup was revealed, many fighters and fans questioned why other contenders, such as Movsar Evloev and Lerone Murphy, were not given title shots despite strong recent performances.
