Former UFC champion Conor McGregor says he will be making a comeback despite the ongoing sexual assault charges against him.
UFC fighter Conor McGregor has been out of the cage since facing Dustin Poirier in 2021 and suffering a leg injury. The fighter broke his leg during the bout and has been on a slow road to recovery, but he was set to return in 2022. Unfortunately, the fighter couldn’t make it into the cage and still hasn’t fought to date.
McGregor promises this is all about to change as he is slated to face longtime opponent Michael Chandler in 2025. Although plans are being set in place for a fight, it seems there may be a hold-up due to McGregor’s current legal incident. The Irishman was accused of raping Nikita Hand back in 2018 and has been found liable for the assault charges.
“The Notorious” says he plans on appealing the verdict, but for now, he is set to pay $250,000 in damages. Due to this controversy, the fighter has been dropped from Proper No12 and Hitman video games. Notwithstanding these allegations and complications, McGregor is still eager to step into the cage to face Chandler.
In a now-deleted tweet on X, McGregor expressed his interest. “ It’s you! Rest up and I’ll see you at the top!.”
The two were originally slated to fight in June, but the fighter had to withdraw from the fight after suffering a broken toe. Since then, there has been no news on when McGregor will return. However, UFC CEO Dana White says the fighter will not be stepping into the octagon in 2025.
“He hasn’t been fighting here in I don’t know how long.” Dana White stated at the UFC 310 presser, discussing Conor McGregor. “Well, if he does fight again, it’ll be sometime late next year.”
His opponent, Michael Chandler, had been on hold for two years, waiting for the fighter, but he finally decided to face Charles Oliveira at UFC 309.
