Ciryl Gane made a grand return to the cage since his last battle in 2021 against Serghei Spivac.
Unfortunately, the bout ended in a unanimous decision loss for the Russian. Since then, Gane hasn’t made it into the octagon until this year at the UFC 310. The Frenchman proved that his absence from the cage did not change him as he scored a split decision win. The incident shocked many, including UFC CEO Dana White, who was seen slamming the judges and calling the decision terrible.
Despite many controversies about the win, Cirl Gane says the win was well earned, although he believed he could do better. He revealed he was fighting injured when he battled Volkov. Gane says he got the injury in the first round but continued to fight on.
“I was frustrated about my fight because of this.” Ciryl Gane stated at the UFC 310 post-fight press conference, discussing his injury. “I was frustrated because I started my training in July for this fight, and I started the fight like this. Like, the first second you [land a punch, the injury happens]. But, I want to be back as soon as I can.”
“We’ll see for my toes. We’re going to go back to training… We’re going to go back really early to the gym because I want to stay active. I want to be back in the cage as soon as I can.”
Gane has now won two consecutive bouts following his disappointing effort in his title fight loss to Jon Jones at UFC 285 in March of 2023. It is unclear how long the 34-year-old will be out of action and what type of opponent he’ll get in his return.
