UFC veteran Michael Chandler was scheduled to fight Conor McGregor at UFC 303, but the Irishman withdrew after suffering a toe injury. Since then, Chandler has been on the prowl for another opponent and has set his sights on Islam Makhachev.

However adamant Chandler may be about battling McGregor, the fight has to wait until his opponent is fully healed before a bout will be rescheduled. In the meantime, ‘Iron’ wants to take a shot at the championship title. Chandler recently shocked fans by revealing a bout against Makhachev offered by the UFC. The match will take place at the Sphere in Las Vegas. Although Makhachev doesn’t see Chandler as a reliable opponent, he has yet to deny the rumors of the offer.

Although it may seem like Chandler will not be getting a chance to face ‘The Notorious,’ fighters like Chael Sonnen believe his new fight deal with Makhachev may provide him with a good opportunity.

Chael Sonnen spoke about Michael Chandler’s future at the UFC on his official YouTube channel. ‘The American Gangster’ also believes the Irishman may not return to the UFC, and Chandler may have a better chance fighting the former two-time division champion.

“If Michael Chandler is offered Islam Makhachev, it sends a message that he needs to be able to hear. The words: ‘We can’t get you a Conor McGregor. We’re not going to get you a Conor McGregor.

“Don’t make that mistake. You’ve got to get the matches you can get when you can get them. You’ve got to win the matches you can win when you can win them. You’ve got to sign the matches you can sign when you can sign them. Before anything elose, get the fight and get it in the ring.”
